 I founded this investment management holding company in 1980 and continued as its CEO for almost twenty years.  The total amount of equity capital raised was under $80 million (1981 – 1986).  UAM grew, through over 50 acquisitions, to $200 billion in assets under management, $1 billion in annual revenues, over $200 million of cash earnings, a New York Stock Exchange listing and a stock market value (after regular dividends and $650 million of share buybacks)  of more than $1.5 billion.  UAM was sold in September, 2000 to Old Mutual, Plc.
 
 PUTNAM INVESTMENTS, BostonCEO & President, 1967 - 1980
 I began as Manager of the George Putnam Fund (a balanced mutual fund), became Director of Research (1968), Chief Investment Officer (1970), President (1975), and CEO (1977).  Putnam’s assets under management grew more than five-fold during the bear market decade of the 1970’s.  I left in 1980 to found United Asset Management.

 A mutual fund management company.  I began as an Analyst following chemical and drug stocks but eventually became an Assistant Fund Manager of Diversified Investment Fund (a balanced fund), serving as Fund Manager during the extended illness of the regular manager.

 This firm was an Over-the-Counter (now NASDAQ) trading firm.  I was an Analyst following New England based OTC companies.  Primary emphasis was on technology and other growth industries.
